Blade CX2 RC Helicopter

Blade CX2 RC Helicopter

I am a fixer, I love removing screws, polishing surfaces, soldering wires, assembling parts, and many other things, and the reason why I love RC flying toys is because all of these activities can be done with RC helis, I personally enjoy doing this while listening some soft music in the quietness of my studio. I think that everybody should try flying RC helicopters or airplanes. RC flying toys are perfect as gifts and these toys are a hobby within a hobby, since having fun with them is one thing but cleaning, maintaining, fixing, replacing, and sometimes painting the parts are very different and entertaining activities to do, and since I want to encourage you to start with this hobby, today I am sharing with you the Blade CX2 RC helicopter review. This toy is considered one of the best RC flying toys on the market for both beginner and advanced pilots.

What you should look for when comparing RC helicopter reviews

If you have been reading my reviews you know that I go in full detail about what is important to know of these toys, the Blade CX2 RC helicopter review will not be the exception and it is very important for you to know that each RC helicopter is different, and even when many of them look the same, there are very specific differences that makes them unique, and these RC helicopter reviews will help you to get the right questions asked and answered, that is the only way to ensure that you will get as much as possible out of this hobby.

This RC helicopter is ready to Fly

As may already know the acronym RTF stands for Ready to Fly, this is a very common term in the RC flying toys and that means good news for the hobbyist, since it indicates that the toy does not require any assembly at all and it is ready to fly out of the box after the first charge, in the case of Blade they take the RTF very seriously and they even include batteries for the transmitter so you don’t have to worry about this, I’ll discuss the details of what is included on another section.

The Blade CX2 RC helicopter is ready to fly out of the box, unlike the mCX2 it has not a BNF (Bind and Fly) version, which does not include the remote control, and the CX2 does not have that option so you’ll get the transmitter every time you get the helicopter. I was researching through various RC helicopter reviews and I found that the Blade CX2 is tested at the factory to ensure proper setup and avoid issues with the end user.

The body and the Technology used on the Blade CX2 RC Helicopter are fantastic

Many helicopters out there are made to be disposable; they are built with very fragile or low quality parts. Sometimes the manufacturers get feedback from their customers about the design and construction of the RC helicopters and they do not take action, but Blade keeps surprising me since they are constantly upgrading their current helis and applying those lessons learned to their future designs; it doesn’t stop there since the technology available to build these toys is constantly changing and many of the issues that a year ago were big problems today can be addressed by upgrading technologies and designs.

The Blade CX2 RC helicopter has been upgraded with an aluminum head/hub; this gives the helicopter superior durability and at the same time helps the hobbyist to save some dollars. This design includes PTCs (Positive Temperature Coefficient), which are devices that increase their electrical resistance as the temperature increases, the PTCs are perfect for over-current protection and unlike the normal fuses they don’t have to be changed or replaced if the current goes up since the PTCs are reset once the temperature goes down.

In terms of technology the Blade CX2 RC heli is a pretty advanced bird; it has a 4-in-q control unit that includes the receiver, mixer, ESCs, and gyro circuitry, this 4-in-1 control unit is a single PCB (printed circuit board) that includes everything that is required to control the motors, inputs, speed, and stability of the RC helicopter; this makes the design pretty robust and easy to repair. The receiver is a Spektrum™ AR6100e model and the technology used on it is top notch.

What about the transmitter?

The transmitter plays a key role in your ability to control the RC helicopter; it is called “remote control” for a reason, and having said this it is imperative for you to count with the best technology available for the transmitter. Many companies put most of the time and resources to build the helicopter as pretty, functional, and cool as possible and neglect the other important part of the whole package, the transmitter; that however is not the case with the Blade RC helicopters, and that explains a lot why a lot of people prefer them over other brands of helis.

In terms of the transmitter, the Blade CX2 RC helicopter has pretty high and advanced tech, it uses and interference-free 5-channel E-flite® transmitter with built-in Spektrum™2.4GHz DSM® technology, and doing a little research I found that actually this interference-free feature is something very important for most hobbyists since they have to pick the right spot to fly their aircraft or they could lose control and damage the helicopter; this is not a problem with the CX2 RC heli since it has everything to fly without any issues.

How stable is the RC helicopter?

As you know I’ve been learning much about RC helicopters over the last months and I publish my lessons learned accordingly. One of the very best lessons that I learned was that the stability of an RC helicopter depends on the gyro system, a tail rotor, and the main rotor blades of the helicopter. The most stable helicopters so far are those with coaxial rotor blades, and that happens because each pair of rotor blades spins in an opposite direction to each other, while spinning each pair of blades generate an opposite angular momentum that makes the helicopter spin in the opposite direction of that particular pair of blades, but since here we have two main rotor blades spinning in opposite directions, each rotor blade cancels the angular momentum of the other and thus stability is accomplished.

The Blade CX2 RC helicopter has coaxial, counter-rotating rotor blades that make hovering easy, and flight stable. Coaxial helicopters are perfect for beginners because of the stability, and even when this can be a challenging 5 channels helicopter, many newbies are able to use it because controlling it requires just patience and practice.

Many things on the RC helicopter are about the battery

The battery of any remote control toy is a very critical and important element, in order to have a great experience using the gadget Li-Po batteries must not be neglected. A not well maintained Li-Po battery can cause severe damage to the aircraft, in order to avoid this issue the battery packs should be charged using a balance charger, most RC helicopters do not include this crucial accessory but Blade helicopters really include everything that you need to make them work out of the box.

The Blade CX2 RC helicopter comes with a 2-cell 7.4V 800mAh Li-Pi battery pack with charge-protection circuitry and in order to help you to get the most out of the battery pack a 2-3 cell DC Li-Po balancing charger is included with and AC adapter, this way you can charge the battery directly from the wall, the balancing charger will keep the battery pack healthy and will help to prevent it from ignition.

What about the Spare parts?

Spare parts are crucial in order to have fun with these toys, I’ve seen and said this a thousand times but it is a good reminder: You must always check the spare parts availability, many RC helicopter reviews forget to tell you this and that is a huge mistake because if no spare parts are available the fun will end pretty soon, so always check the spare parts availability and more importantly, get a set even if you don’t need it yet, trust me you will.

Most parts of the Blade CX2 helicopter are compatible with the Blade CX heli, so if you happen to have the previous model these are good news for you. In case that you don’t own the previous version the Blade CX2 RC helicopter there are spare available for this model through amazon and other hobby stores.

How much is the Blade CX2?

The Blade CX2 RTF Coaxial helicopter is available through many hobby stores online and offline and it has a list price of 249.99 USD. After looking at some of the best places offering it I found that the best deal is with Amazon, who is consistently selling this item for less than 190.00 USD and offering free shipping. It is worth to mention that the customer service from Amazon is great and that they can be very helpful if you need them.

What is included in the box?

I did my homework on this matter as well and I found a lot of good unboxing videos on YouTube. Inside the box the following list of items are included:

  • Blade CX2 RC Helicopter

Current customers’ reviews about the Blade CX2 RC Helicopter

If you want to step up from the RC flying saucers and the very simple Air Hogs Helicopter, then this is the perfect RC Heli!

The Eflite Blade CX2 will actually go where you want it to (with practice). Everything needed to fly the CX2 is included in the box.

Eflite is one of the most popular RC companies, so parts support is very good with most hobby shops. There are also many upgrades you can do on the CX2 such as the “police body canopy” or a “carbon tailboom” mod.

Caution: this hobby is very addictive, and you may soon find yourself looking at more complicated, expensive, and harder to fly RC helicopters.

Here is another useful review from a different customer

The Blade CX2 is perhaps the best RC indoor, electric, coaxial helicopter on the market. The new 2.4Ghz transmitter and receiver are excellent and glitch free. The built in gyro produces little to no nose wandering and when properly trimmed the helicopter can hover hands off.

As others have said this is not really a toy but an RC helicopter designed to teach you how to fly RC helis. It is a great learning tool and will remain a fun, indoor flyer even if you move on to more advanced RC helicopters. It is very precise and you can easily land and take off from an area the size of a CD case once you get good. The Blade CX2 can be flown outdoors but does not handle wind at all.

Any downsides?

Reading through different RC helicopter reviews from customers I found that some people are a little frustrated for the short flight time of 10 to 15 minutes compared to the charging time of 1 to 2 hours. It is important to say that this is a common condition of Li-Po batteries since that is where the technology is at right now.

Where can I get an E-flite Blade CX2 RC Helicopter?

As I mentioned before, after digging a lot of places to get the Blade CX2 RC heli, the best place with the best deal, attention and customer service is Amazon, the offer by far the best service not only in terms of the product you’ll get but also they have real customers’ RC helicopter reviews where people talks about their experiences with these toys.

Click here to check if the Blade CX2 is still available on Amazon, last time I checked there were only 5 left in stock so act now. Don’t forget to choose the One-Day Shipping so that you can start enjoying this amazing helicopter in no time.
